Motivation Monday Breakthrough: The Importance of Down Time

I just got off this week’s Breakthrough session with business coach Kelly McCausey and life coach Aurelia Williams. We talked about why down time is so important and how it actually helps us to be more productive in our businesses.MM175button

Some of us even feel guilty about taking some down time from our business. This is probably due to the fact that we feel like we’re being lazy if we’re not working all the time. Well the truth of the matter is, when we take the much needed down time, we actually are more productive and can get a lot more accomplished than if we push and push ourselves to the point of burn out.

Not only is down time good for your business, it’s also good for your health. When we overwork ourselves, our immune system weakens and we tend to get sick a lot more often. But, when we have regular down time, our bodies have time to recoop and we tend not to get sick as much.

Make your down time work for you

No matter what type of work schedule you have, make down time work for you. As a work at home mom, I tend to work when I need to in order to get projects done, and when I don’t have client projects, then I work on business building projects that will help me reach my business and personal goals. I also tend to work on the weekends, late at night and sometimes early in the morning. But, the one thing I do make sure of, is that I do get some down time. I usually take a nap on Sundays after church, and I play an online game when I need a break from writing. (I really enjoy playing games, so I find them very relaxing. I realize not everyone enjoys them though). I also take time out for my family, church and youth ministry.

So, make sure you get a good stretch of down time each week. It really will help you focus and be more productive in your business. If you’re so busy that you feel you can’t take any down time, you might want to consider outsourcing some of your projects. As a virtual assistant I can help you get those tasks done that you don’t enjoy doing and that can free up some time in order for you to be able to enjoy some down time. Great tips! Down time is so important and it’s often overlooked as a non-essential item to put into your calendar. It’s so important to make this a priority and use it well!
